We can configure & run/test unit in our shop at 28°F for your brewery/winery application; equally as fine for a manufacturing operation which uses higher fluid temps. Although run and tested here, the system required field refrigerant piping installed & charge added, as it is SPLIT with the condenser going outside.
Water-cooled chillers require cooling towers, condenser water pumps, and other associated HVAC components. Air-cooled chillers do not need any of these additional building blocks. These complex machines require a lot of maintenance to keep them in good working order. If proper steps aren’t taken, the chiller can corrode, clog, lose efficiency, or experience a number of other issues. For example, if proper water treatment isn’t maintained or if open cooling towers aren’t cleaned, sediment or particulates can be introduced to the system, causing clogged pipes and poor heat transfer. An air-cooled chiller’s condenser can be blocked by debris or become caked in dirt, which also lowers efficiency. Additionally, this chiller has the factory low fluid temperature “brine” option to handle set point temperatures 0° to 39°F . Arrived in January 2018 to KIG were two Carrier Aquasnap 40 ton Air Cooled Chillers. These units had low hours and were well maintained at a Data Center.
For a dry cooler, thermal exchange is performed by pulling in external air and circulating it over tubes containing a cooling fluid (typically water or water-glycol mixture). The cooled fluid is then circulated through a heat exchanger attached to an associated process. The excess heat transferred to the cooling fluid is then returned to the dry cooler and the cycle is restarted. It is important to note that a dry cooler does not have a standard refrigeration unit which chills a circulating refrigerant. Rather, it uses fans to pull in ambient air to cool its heated fluid medium. Air Cooled Chillers are often an excellent process cooling option to water cooled chillers because they are closed loop systems. Closed loop systems have the ability to offer instantaneous cooling to plant processes as well as offer significant savings in water usage by recirculating coolant/water. Acquired by KIG in March 2015 was this nice 50 ton Koolant Koolers / Dimplex Thermal 50 ton Air Cooled Chiller. It was stored at a California riggers yard, we had it inspected and controls powered up, and it had 0 COMPRESSOR HOURS, and 0.16 PUMP HOURS! We learned that the prior owner had it installed at the same time a cooling tower and pump tank which they discovered achieved all their required cooling. In addition to being a desirable size, it also has an onboard 15 hp process pump and onboard reservoir tank. It has 8 cooling fans, 4 of them with VFD low ambient controller. It has a brazed plate exchanger and utilizes a nice high end 50 hp Bitzer Compressor.
